WebPlasmapheresis is a procedure in which a large portion of a patient's plasma is removed and discarded and replaced with fresh donor plasma or a protein solution (human albumin). A physician will order this type of treatment if some substance in the patient's plasma is making him or her sick. WebPlasmapheresis (from the Greek πλάσμα, plasma, something molded, and ἀφαίρεσις aphairesis, taking away) is the removal, treatment, and return or exchange of blood plasma or components thereof from and to the blood circulation. It is thus an extracorporeal therapy, a medical procedure performed outside the body.
