WebProduction of oocytes in vitro is a three-step process involving oocyte maturation (IVM), oocyte fertilization (IVF), and subsequent culture of the zygote to the blastocyst stage (in vitro culture, IVC) ( Figure 2 ). For research purposes, oocytes are usually recovered from the ovaries of heifers and cows slaughtered in licensed abattoirs. WebCurrently we use M1 ICSI for embryologist training and clinically in cases of poor oocyte maturity. We have discontinued the routine practice of M1 ICSI on our general patient population based on this study. The time and effort needed to ICSI and track these oocytes outweighs the minimal benefit gained by performing this procedure.
