The SMG I is about equal to the Getrag Steptronic automatic in shift times, but is very jerky and overall a bad idea. The SMG II shifts much faster and is much more solid and fluid in shifting than the SMG I (despite still being jerky). We all recommend that during a clutch change, everything in the bell housing gets replaced including the slave cylinder. Otherwise you'll have to pull the transmission again for the slave cylinder.
